Coming up on the 20th October is a tour of the Wits campus. Apart from seeing a range of architectural styles from different decades of the 20th Century, the east campus offers insight into the original planning and layout of the core early buildings while the west campus offers interesting examples of adaptive re-use in the buildings of the old showgrounds. There are art collections (including of course the newly opened Wits Art Museum (WAM) and a good range of public art. Run under the auspices of the Parktown Heritage trust, the tour will be lead by Professor Kathy Munro, Hon Associate Professor in the School of Architecture and Planning. Kathy is an economic historian and is now a keen researcher and writer on Wits’ heritage. Meet in front of the Origins Centre at 14.00. Cost R70 for members and R100 for non-members. This promises to be a really interesting tour. Fpr more information contact Parktown Westcliff Heritage Offices on 011 482 3349 Weekdays 9 am to 1pm.
